Clowns has a new FDO (Fundraising Development Officer), Donna Byrne.
This post is funded by the Big Lottery Grant.
We would like to say a big 'welcome on board' to Donna!
The idea for Clowns in the Sky came from Jennifer Chambers who was just 2 years of age when she was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour. She was a bright, lively, happy, fun-loving girl, who enjoyed life to the full. She fought so bravely for 9 months and never gave up or complained; sadly she died in April 2004.
Like every child who dies of cancer in this country. Jennifer is missed so much by her family, yet in her short life she gave so much happiness and joy to everyone around her.
When Jennifer was in Great Ormond Street, she met her first clown, a doctor who was dressed up as a clown to bring some sunshine into the lives of sick children. As she travelled home by car, she said, ‘Look mummy, at the Clowns in the Sky.’ Although Lynn told her they were clouds not clowns, Jennifer insisted there were indeed clowns in the sky. Hence Jennifer inspired the name of the charity.
